Charles Stiefel is chairman of the Board of Brickell Biotech, Inc., a company that specializes in developing new products for skin diseases. He also serves on the Board of Encore Dermatology, Inc., another pharmaceutical company specializing in dermatology.
Previously, Charles was chairman and CEO of Stiefel Laboratories, Inc. Founded in 1847, Stiefel Laboratories was a family-owned company for more than 160 years until it was sold to GlaxoSmithKline in 2009. At the time, Stiefel Laboratories was the world’s largest privately held pharmaceutical company specializing in dermatological products, with nearly 4,000 employees in more than 30 countries and products distributed in more than 100 countries. Charles first joined the company as general counsel in 1982 and was subsequently named executive vice president and then president.
In 2003, Charles was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award by the South Florida Dermatology Foundation, and in 2006 he was named Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year in Health Sciences for the state of Florida. In April, 2015, the American Skin Association presented him with a special award for Distinguished Service to Humanity.
Born in Catskill, New York, Charles holds an undergraduate degree from Yale University and a JD degree from Albany Law School. He and his wife Daneen have two adult children and reside in Raleigh.
